Southern Burgundy is a great area to cruise, with the majestic river Saone at it's heart.
For those wishing to cruise in Burgundy but without the hardwork of 50 or so locks, this is a great destination as there are far fewer locks than on either the Burgundy or Nivernais canal.
On the river Saone you will find such towns as Lyon, Macon, Tournus, Chalon sur Saone and St Jean de Losne to visit, each of which has a selection of restaurants, museums, shops and 'caves' in which you can taste locally produced wines.
Real connoisseurs might like to cruise on the Canal du Centre where vineyards cling to the hills: Chagny, Rully, Santenay, the Cotes de Beaune are all accesible from the canal by either bike or taxi.
Alternatively, nature lovers will enjoy the river Seille, which leads to the Medieval town of Louhans where the traditional Monday market is a must-see. The narrow river Seille is a haven for wildlife and a fisherman's paradise.
Three of our fleets at Hotelsafloat.com operate in Southern Burgundy:
Locaboat offer a range of traditional penichettes from St Leger sur Dheune on the Canal du centre, from where you can explore the canal or the Canal and the river Saone, as you wish.
Pavillon Saone, based at Tournus on the river Saone, offer a range of modern style, air-conditioned cruises for that home-from-home experience.
Saone Bateaux are based slightly further south at Gigny sur Saone, in the heart of the countryside. A range of boats are available for from 2 -8 people.
Southern Burgundy deserves your consideration if you are looking for a cruise this year, and we have some great promotions here!
